Concrete on a Narrow Peninsula
Sewall's Point is one of the most water-surrounded places on the Treasure Coast, and concrete contractors in Sewall's Point plan every job with that in mind. The town sits on a peninsula with the St. Lucie River to the south and west and the Indian River Lagoon to the east. Of its 4.13 square miles, about 2.95 square miles, or 71 percent, is water. Its elevation is about 7 feet.
A small, settled town
Sewall's Point was settled in 1889, platted between 1891 and 1893 and incorporated on June 12, 1957. The population barely moves: 1,996 in 2010 and 1,991 in 2020, in 931 housing units. With so little land and so few new lots, most concrete work here improves existing homes. Owners replace aging driveways, enlarge pool decks, and upgrade plain concrete to decorative finishes.
Building near the water
Two things matter most when the water is this close:
Drainage. On low, flat lots, slabs must move rain away from the house quickly. We form every slab with slope and plan where the water goes, so a patio or deck does not send runoff toward a door.
Salt exposure. River and lagoon spray carries salt that can work into concrete and attack the steel inside over time. A dense, well-cured mix, enough concrete over the reinforcement and a quality sealer all help a slab hold up.
Pool decks with a view
Many homes here have pools facing the water. A pool deck in this setting needs to look good, stay comfortable in full sun and grip when wet. We pour new decks, replace cracked or settled ones and extend decks that are too small for entertaining. Stamped patterns, colored concrete and textured finishes all work, and lighter colors stay cooler underfoot.
Stamped driveways and entries
On a street where many homes face the water, a driveway is part of the first impression. A stamped driveway in a stone, brick or tile pattern, or a plain driveway with a decorative border, gives a finished look. We pour driveways at the right thickness for vehicles, reinforce them and seal decorative finishes with a product made for traffic.
The storm next door
Hurricane Jeanne made landfall on Hutchinson Island, just east of Sewall's Point, on September 26, 2004. Storms like that bring fallen trees, flooding and debris, and they leave damage that does not always get fixed right away. If you have a cracked or lifted slab from an old storm, we can look at whether a repair or a replacement is the better fix.
Local history at the tip of the point
The Capt. Henry E. Sewall House was built at the tip of the point in 1889, moved to Port Sewall in 1910 and now stands in Indian RiverSide Park in Jensen Beach. State Road A1A comes into town from Hutchinson Island over the Ernest Lyons Bridge, and Jensen Beach borders the peninsula to the north.
A town with its own rules
Sewall's Point is an incorporated town with a commission-manager government, so its rules for driveways, slabs and work near the water are set locally, not by Martin County. We check with the town before we schedule. The 2020 census counted 832 households, 69.5 percent of them married couples, with a median age of 56.9 and only 10.6 percent of homes vacant, so most owners live here and want work that lasts. On narrow residential streets we plan where the truck parks and whether a pump is needed, and we put that in the written estimate. Call (772) 280-4969 to set up a visit.

Sewall's Point Questions
How do you handle drainage on a low Sewall's Point lot?
We form every slab with slope so rain runs away from the house and toward the yard or a drain. On pool decks we plan the slope so water does not run into the pool or toward doors.
Will salt from the river damage a new driveway?
A well-built slab resists salt for many years. We use a dense mix, keep enough concrete over the steel, cure it carefully and recommend a good sealer, which you renew every few years.
Can trucks reach my home on a narrow street?
We look at access during the estimate. If a truck cannot reach the pour area, we plan for a pump or another delivery method and include it in the quote.
