Concrete Work at the South End of the County
Hobe Sound sits at the southern end of Martin County, and its homeowners look for concrete contractors who respect the area's quieter, natural setting. The community stretches along the coast between Port Salerno to the north and Jonathan Dickinson State Park to the south, about 12 miles southeast of Stuart. It had 13,163 residents in the 2020 census, up from 11,521 in 2010, on about 7.1 square miles of land.
A boom that stopped short
Hobe Sound has had more than one identity. Land here was part of a 12,000-acre Spanish grant from 1815. Shortly after 1900, Henry Flagler's railroad came through. During the 1920s land boom the Olympia Improvement Corporation planned a Greek-style town and the place was briefly renamed Picture City; the boom collapsed after the 1928 Okeechobee hurricane and the old name came back. A school building from 1924 opened as the Olympia School in 1925 and stayed a school until 1962. The result is a community that grew in stages, with a mix of older homes and newer ones built after the boom years.
Matching the work to the home
Because the housing varies in age, so does the concrete work:
Older homes often have narrow, thin driveways and walkways that were never reinforced. Replacement lets us rebuild the base, pour to proper thickness and reset the slope so water drains away from the house.
Newer homes more often need additions: a wider parking area, a patio extension, a slab for a screen room, or a pool deck enlargement.
Seasonal homes need work scheduled while owners are away. The 2020 census counted 7,366 housing units, and 15.6 percent were vacant at the time of the count, a sign of how many part-year residents live here.
Between the narrows and the park
Jupiter Island lies just east across South Jupiter Narrows, Jonathan Dickinson State Park closes off the south end, and the listed elevation is about 20 feet. Many properties sit close to natural areas, and owners tend to want concrete that blends in rather than shouts. Tinted concrete in sand or earth tones, a stamped stone pattern or an exposed-aggregate texture can make a patio or walkway look at home next to native landscaping.

Walkways for an older population
The 2020 census put Hobe Sound's median age at 56.9, with 34.1 percent of residents 65 or older and 35 percent of households made up of one person. That changes what a good job looks like. A front walk should be wide, flat and free of lips at the joints. A single step at the entry can often be replaced by a gently sloped walk. A broom finish keeps grip in the rain, and a garage-to-lanai path lets someone avoid the grass after dark. These details cost little at the forming stage and a lot to add later.
County driveway rules
Hobe Sound is unincorporated, so a driveway or culvert in the right-of-way goes through Martin County. Residential driveway and culvert applications are handled by the Martin County Building Department, and its checklist covers points that shape the design: a culvert of at least 15 inches or matching the neighbors' pipes, no blocking of existing roadside drainage, and, where a street has no swale, a driveway graded for at least 0.2 feet of fall within seven feet of the pavement edge. US 1, A1A, Bridge Road and Gomez Avenue carry most of the traffic, so we time deliveries around them. Call (772) 280-4969 to schedule an on-site estimate.

Hobe Sound Questions
Can you make a Hobe Sound patio look natural next to native plants?
Yes. Integral color in sand or earth tones, a stamped stone pattern or a textured finish helps concrete blend with a natural yard. We bring samples so you can compare them on site.
My Hobe Sound driveway is narrow and old. Can it be widened?
Usually, yes. We often replace the old slab and pour a wider one with a new base and proper slope. If the old concrete is sound, we can add a widened section and tie it in with dowels.
Do you travel to Hobe Sound from Port St. Lucie?
Yes. Hobe Sound is part of our Treasure Coast service area, and estimates there are free.
